Jack Mandelbaum faced one of the worst cases of genocide in world history. After his liberation he immediately went looking for his family to see if any of them survived. His results were depressing. Out of eight people who he was extremely close to only two survived. For years he fought suicide and depression. He continued to ask himself "why did I live when no one else did?" He started regretting his survival wishing he didn't become so lucky. He slowly made his way past the difficulties of being alone and continued his life. Frequently, he dreams of being in the concentration camps. Dreaming that he gets shot, dies of starvation, or is drowning in a ditch. The dreams are constant and repeat over and over again, along with the guilt of his survival.
